Inaugural Commonwealth Youth Development Summit at the University of Oxford
Oxford, United Kingdom — The inaugural session of the Commonwealth Youth Development Summit (CYDS) 2026 has been successfully concluded at the prestigious University of Oxford, bringing together emerging leaders, policymakers, development practitioners, entrepreneurs, and young changemakers from across the Commonwealth.
Held over three days, the summit served as a platform for meaningful dialogue, leadership development, and cross-sector collaboration, equipping participants with the knowledge and networks required to address the Commonwealth’s most pressing challenges.
Hosted at the University of Oxford, the summit featured keynote addresses, expert panel discussions, interactive workshops, and networking sessions focused on leadership, governance, innovation, sustainable development, entrepreneurship, climate action, and youth participation in public policy.
Throughout the programme, participants engaged directly with distinguished speakers from government, academia, international organisations, civil society, and the private sector, exchanging ideas and exploring practical solutions to strengthen leadership across the Commonwealth.
The summit also provided a unique opportunity for delegates to build lasting professional relationships, fostering collaboration among young leaders representing diverse countries, cultures, and sectors.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Commonwealth Youth Council Chairperson Joshua Opey highlighted the importance of investing in leadership as the foundation for sustainable development.
“The future of the Commonwealth will be shaped by leaders who are equipped not only with knowledge, but with the courage, networks, and practical skills to drive meaningful change. The Commonwealth Youth Development Summit was created to build exactly that generation of leaders.”
The summit concluded with renewed commitments to collaboration, innovation, and youth leadership, with delegates encouraged to continue working together beyond the event to deliver tangible impact within their communities and institutions.
Plans are already underway for future editions of the summit, which will continue to provide opportunities for current and future leaders to learn, connect, and develop solutions to the challenges and opportunities facing the Commonwealth.
